Whoever Controls the Schools Rules the World
Lawrence Janousek (Plainfield, WI) 6/8/2010 12:54 PM
This book captured my interest right from the beginning. I have been watching Glenn Beck on Fox and he has been touching on these very issues. I found the book easily readable and understandable and what I like the most of all the books that Gary writes is the fact that his information is all fact! He backs everything up with references which is vital when you are trying to get your point across to the uninitiated. Thank you for a great book, Gary.

The Battlefield of Education
Jeffrey Newnum (Benton, KY) 6/8/2010 8:46 AM
It's easy to give this book a 5 star review simply because it outlines in very difinitive detail the decline of moral education in America and what we can do about it. This book is a call to action. We, as Christians, are not to shrink from our duty to inform this Christ-rejecting world that there is only one sovereign and to follow any other is flirting with destruction. This book is an easy read, full of historically accurate information sure to help you understand the reason why Education is so important to "The State" and to us as Christians.

Whoever Controls the Schools Rules the World
Harold H. Wesche (Eagle, ID) 6/7/2010 11:56 PM
As a retired teacher and administrator, having worked in both the government school system, and in Christian schools, I immediately saw, as I read this book, that Gary DeMar has seen and described the situation very accurately. I highly recommend this book to every parent, teacher, and pastor, who have a vision for what God will do through the next generation to build His Kingdom. Since retiring, I have been doing a lot of substitute teaching in the government schools. Daily I see what is happening and realize how accurate Gary's diagnosis and prognosis are. And it gets worse each year. It is a rare student who can daily submit to the humanistic indoctrination received in the "public" schools and not be affected by it. There are a few faithful Christians still teaching in the "public" schools, but their hands are tied. They cannot be as effective as they ought to be, and their meager efforts are often swept aside by the torrential current of humanism all around them. I once asked the late Dr. Greg Bahnsen if a Christian could be effective in the government school system. He replied, "There are two main problems with that, one is you are not allowed to think like a Christian there, and two, you are not allowed to teach like a Christian there." I have seen the wisdom of his words many times since then. Christian parents must bring their children up in the Paideia of the Lord (Eph. 6:4) which means they must either homeschool or find a faithful Christian school. They cannot practice the command in Deut. 6:6-7 by placing their most cherished possessions in the enemy's training camp day after day. I thought so highly of this book that I purchased multiple copies to give to pastors, teachers, and Christian school administrators. I recommend this book without reservation. Soli Deo gloria.

Whoever Controls the Schools Rules the WOrld
Beth Bowen (Phoenix, AZ) 6/7/2010 1:13 AM
I just finished The Truth Project a couple of weeks ago -- another biblical worldview instruction plan. WHOEVER CONTROLS THE SCHOOLS RULES THE WORLD is on the same page with The Truth Project. God is the only source of Truth. Without acknowledgment of Him in our school curriculum, we can only expect to see moral disarray, discouragement, depression, violence and a lack of purpose for our youth and the future of our country. We need to wake up and rescue our children from this indoctrination that the cosmos is all there is -- there is no plan or design for the universe, it just happened. Any standard for ethics, purpose or morality is non-existent. What I read reminded me of a quote I read from Martin Luther regarding education, "I am afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the heart of the youth." We cannot ignore the situations in the public schools and leave our children to the wolves. Gary DeMar has once again written a book that makes the situation clear, so we have no excuse for living in ignorance.

Important Book on an Important Subject
Douglas Atkinson (Forest, VA) 6/6/2010 8:31 PM
For too long Christians have been accepting the government schooling of their children as the norm, as God has been kicked further and further away from education. Christians have been the boiling frog for way too long, and Whoever Controls the Schools provides another wake-up call for the Christian education of our children. The world understands the Biblical maxim, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6). While the Bible intends for the "way" to be that of Christ, the world is intentionally leaving Christ out of the picture. Mr. DeMar points out how both Hitler's regime and Marxism had concrete plans to take the children to train them up in their non-Christian worldview. DeMar shows how this mindset continues today, even to the extent of calling anyone who wants to teach any opposition to evolution as teaching falsehoods. DeMar expresses how the government school promises to be "neutral" in its thinking, but neutrality is impossible. Any level of teaching cannot be neutral, it all has to be based on some level of presupposition. DeMar writes, "Morality, even if it doesn’t have a discernible foundation, is not all bad. Over time, however, “virtue” and “morality” can be made to mean anything." Although not mentioned in the book, in the Christian movie "Time Changer", the protagonist confronts a young girl in the future who has stolen a hot dog from him. He says that stealing is wrong, and she retorts back "says who?" as she runs off. Without Christ as our Standard, the question of "says who" will always haunt us. As with another reviewer here, I would have loved some more in-depth discussion of some of the areas such as the biblical principles of Christian education and discussion of subject areas other than science, but overall I found the book a worthwhile read. Recommended.

About the Title: "One of the most useful tools in the quest for power is the educational system."

Its been said that "the philosophy of the classroom in this generation will be the philosophy of life in the next generation."

Our earliest founding fathers understood this. That's why, after building homes and churches, they established educational institutions like Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Dartmouth. Over time, most Christians have adopted the false premise that facts are neutral. They believe it doesn't matter who teaches math, science, and history, because facts are facts. The humanists took advantage of this type of thinking by gradually shaping and controlling education in terms of materialist assumptions.

Whoever Controls the Schools Rules the World shows how education can be used as a vehicle for social change from Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler to secular humanism and radical Islam. Our worldview opponents understand that education is where the war of ideas is fought. If Christians are serious about securing the future for our children, they must understand the nature of the war we are fighting. If you have children, want children, or know someone who has children -- you need to get this book and read it before it becomes too late to save the generation to follow us from the ruins.

Excerpt:

The goals of the humanists are clear and forthright. They hide nothing and demand everything. The humanist agenda has been relentless in its efforts to remake man and the world in the image of autonomous man. There is no compromise or lack of vision on their part. The humanist worldview is comprehensive. A concerted and planned effort has been made by humanist thinkers to “capture the robes" of society by working for an ideological monopoly in the areas of education, law, science, and
religion. For too long, Christians have believed that an arena of neutrality and immunity exists where humanists and Christians can discuss issues based on an “objective” study of the facts. Unfortunately, the humanists never adopted the neutrality myth while they sold it to us at a very high price. While Christians have been sold the spoiled goods of neutrality, fair play, objectivity, toleration, and pluralism, the humanists have been promoting and implementing their worldview in every area of life while denying what they tell us we should believe. It’s unfortunate that many Christians still believe that neutrality is possible and that humanists strive to pursue objectivity in education. Nothing could be  further from the truth. All facts are interpreted facts, and humanists want them interpreted without any regard for God and His Word.

Contrary opinions regarding the facts are not considered. The State has determined what the standard will be to interpret the facts. The humanists have understood this for a long time, so they made it their business to capture the robes of civil government so they could control the means of perpetuating their worldview. Humanist social theory has turned education into a god, a god that they now control. Laws are written and legislation enacted, all in the name of the misreading of the First Amendment, to shut out all rival religions. Taxes—civil government’s tithe (1 Sam. 8)—are paid to the State in support of the State church: schools. (From the Introduction)
