About the Title: In the summer of 1830, 13-year-old Olive Oatman and her family embarked with a wagon train down the Santa Fe Trail, seeking the new "promised land" of California.

 

The family's exciting adventure turns desperate when the wagon train disbands and Olive is captured by outlaw Yavapai Indians. Even after she is rescued by the peaceful Mohaves, Olive struggles to adjust to her new difficult life. Encouraged by an unexpected friendship, she begins to see the Mohave tatoo on her chin as a mark of ransom, a sign of God's love and deliverance.
