About the Title
A pillar of the Western literary tradition, and yet an embarrassment to many Christians—how is this possible for a book of the Bible written by one of the most revered men in the history of Old Testament Israel?
For too many Christians today, the Shepherd King’s book of Ecclesiastes seems full of dour turns of phrase and freighted with pessimism, cynicism, doubt, and gloom.
And worse, Solomon does the unthinkable: He recommends pleasure to his readers.
What is the conscientious Bible-reading Christian to make of this?
For years, Christian commentaries and sermon series have done their best to domesticate Solomon’s wisdom. They flip it around, negate it with false contexts, or wind their way around the obstacles it throws in our paths, all the while doing their best to forget that their faith was ever challenged.
In A Table in the Mist, Pastor Jeffrey Meyers invites us to sup at Solomon’s table and hear the faithful wisdom of the Shepherd King.
Is everything really "vapor"? What does "shepherding the wind" truly mean? And how much control do we really have over this world?
Pick up a copy today and prepare to read Ecclesiastes Through New Eyes.
About the series:
Bible-reading is more of an art than a science. The Bible is a story, not a lexicon of systematic theological definitions. With this in mind, The Through New Eyes Bible Commentary Series builds on the foundational Biblical-theology work of James B. Jordan and other like-minded scholars in bringing you a set of commentaries that will help you read, teach and preach through the Bible while picking up on the rich symphonic themes and the literary symbolism of the Scriptures. Because they are written for thoughtful Christians without being overly academic, these commentaries will serve as valuable resources for family worship, Sunday school or Bible studies.
