About the Title: Many have been misled into thinking that the Genesis account of creation is not actual history but is just some sort of theological argument ("polemic"). This small book succinctly shows why those who believe in the inspiration of Scripture have no intellectually honest choice but to take Genesis as straight-forward history, just as Jesus did. It powerfully challenges one of the major problems in the church today that affects the authority of the entire Bible.

Read it, and give it to your pastor or anyone contemplating theological training—it could save them from getting derailed by some of the misleading arguments common in theological academia.

Table of Contents:

  • Jesus understood the Old Testament as history
  • Jesus regarded Adam, Eve and Noah as historical people
  • Genesis was written as history
  • The rest of the Old Testament takes Genesis as history
  • The New Testament takes Genesis as history
  • Genesis history is consistent with God's nature
  • Genesis as history explains the origin of death and suffering
  • The Gospel presupposes the historical events of Genesis
  • A consistent Christian worldview depends on Genesis as history
  • Denying the history of Genesis disconnects Christianity from the "real world"
  • The early church leaders accepted the time frame and global flood of Genesis
  • The Reformers understood Genesis as history
  • Atheism requires naturalism —Christians should not deny Genesis as history in order to accommodate it
  • Abandoning Genesis as history leads to heresy and apostasy
  • Why not take Genesis as history? Only the fallible speculations of historical "science" stand in the way
  • What about science?
  • Why this matters

A Brief Introduction to Genesis As Inspired History
Nathan Albright (Tampa, FL) 12/30/2008 5:01 PM
It is very clear the authors of this short booklet are Trinitarian Young Earth Creationists, but while this perspective is definitely obvious, and I am not a Trinitarian nor am I convinced of the validity of Young Earth Creationism, nonetheless the book is an excellent (and brief) examination of the way the Bible (particularly the first 11 chapters of Genesis, on which it focuses) should be viewed as an authentic historical work reflecting what actually happened at the beginning of man's time on earth. I happen to agree that the literal seven days of Creation are literal days, though I must admit I am quite agnostic as to what occurred before those days (and am skeptical about the claims of deep time). It is clear that there are serious consequences with adopting one's view of creation, and this book examines some of those, as well as the history of principled biblical literalism, though it is only a brief introduction.
